Clinical guidelines and tools

We’ve developed guidelines and tools to help you treat and manage your patient’s asthma, preschool wheeze or reactive airways disease.

Who can use the tools

• Hospital emergency departments
• First responders including nurses and doctors who provide emergency care
• GPs and health professionals

Wheeze Action Plan

The action plan helps patients manage their wheezing symptoms at home, kindergarten or school. It’s suitable for:

• asthma
• reactive airway disease
• preschool wheeze.

It also helps reduce the likelihood of patients going to an emergency department. It includes:

• guidelines to help patients manage their medicine use
• a discharge plan when leaving hospital
• an everyday action plan to use when their symptoms get worse.

How to use it

Download and fill in the Wheeze action plan for your patient.

Keep a copy for your medical records and give 2 copies to your patient’s parents or carers. They should share it with:

• other people who care for your patient including grandparents and teachers
• their GP or other health professionals
• hospital staff if they go to an emergency department.
